The Story of Stuff

The Story of Stuff project website provides numerous videos and resources that will enlighten you and hopefully lighten the need for STUFF that has become such a problem in today's society.

Ever wonder how all of our stuff comes to be and what happens to it. The Story of Stuff was released in 2007. It is a "20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world."

Clean up Locations and Schedule

Carteret Big Sweep ‚Äčis Carteret County's effort to educate the public on litter and teach how they can take action by doing their part to make a difference.  Carteret Big Sweep encourages year-round cleanups.  For current information visit Carteret Big Sweep on Facebook.

Innovative Products

  • Switch to wooden tooth brushes. They are as cheap as plastic toothbrushes if not cheaper.
  • Bite Toothpaste tablets instead of the tube

  • Use Cotton mesh produce bags instead of plastic at the grocery.
  • Reuse Ziploc bags. I use a toothbrush holder with chopsticks but this would work as well. This really only works with Ziploc brand bags. The cheap bags are too flimsy. Spend a few cents more and you save a lot.
  • Non-toxic, plastic free laundry tabs - Dropps - I use powder which is packaged in cardboard so haven't tried these yet.

Upcoming Clean-ups

September 21, 2019 clean up at the Newport River Boat Ramp. Thank you so much to those that came and cleaned. I appreciate your support.
